This release contains the complete album Getz Meets Mulligan in Hi-Fi (Verve MGV-8249), which was their only quintet album together. Included here are two tunes that complete the session, "Scrapple from the Apple" and "I Didn't Know What Time It Was", which had been originally issued on a various artists LP. On the album's first three tracks, the leaders trade horns, allowing the listener the rare opportunity to hear Stan Getz on baritone sax and Gerry Mulligan on tenor sax! In the original liner notes, producer Norman Granz states that he was interested in the results of a frontline collaboration between saxophonists Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan. He also commented that this was the first time they recorded together as the primary horns of a session. Even though this project proved very successful musically and both musicians had known each other long before it was recorded, they would never again play together in this format (at least on records).
