A Study of Learning and Development in a Research Group
This study analyzes the life and development of an Aerosol Technology Group in a Finnish national research center during the 1990s. It shows how the research strategy of the group was strongly influenced by other research groups and industrial companies, and how this learning in networks was the source of its expansion and growth. Ethnographic analysis was used to examine how a new research area emerged, how the research work was planned in the group meetings, and how the collaboration between the groups evolved and influenced the research. Developments in the division of labor and the individual careers of the researchers in the research group are also vividly highlighted. This book
offers new insights and understanding for anybody interested in the multifaceted
dynamics of research work and learning at work.
