Gully erosion, one of the severest forms of water erosion, is currently a phenomenon of world-wide importance and significance. The damage caused by this problem often spreads beyond the areas affected; for instance, through the siltation of reservoirs and lakes. However, gully erosion has not been receiving the attention due to it from the scientific community. As a result, there are still many unanswered questions about this important environment matter. That is why scientists from all over the world have been holding periodic meetings, in which thay present the lastest knowledge and advances in the estudy of gully erosion. The first of these was held in Leuven (Belgium) in 2000, the second in Sicuani (China) in 2002 and the third in Oxford, Mississippi (USA) in 2004. On that occasion, those attending proposed Pamplona (Spain) to be the seat of the followiong meeting, to be held in September, 2007.
