This book is a current survey on the impediments to the services trade in the accountancy sector, dealing with fundamental legal questions regarding the “right of establishment” and the “freedom to provide services” from a European perspective. It explains how the accountancy sector has developed, how accountancy firms operate and the ways of adapting to national regulation by the creation of international networks.
The book presents the features of EC law and WTO law. The relevant case-law is referred to with comments. It also discusses the controversial expansion of MDP firms (multidisciplinary practices), which are now conquering markets previously dominated by law firms. EC law and the case-law of the European Court of Justice seems to offer unused opportunities for the free movement of auditors and audit firms.
