Introduction to Finnish Law and Legal Culture
Finnish law is part of Nordic law, a family of systems which has not always been easy to locate in the families conventionally recognized in comparative law. Perhaps more interesting than the issue of classification itself, is the mentality revealed and embodied by the national legal system. Not only is law a product of society, history and politics, but it also carries many marks and traces of issues beyond the law itself. Legal thinking is increasingly international. Nevertheless, we may perhaps still see vestiges of typical national approaches, which can be used to deepen our comparative understanding.
