It first gives a detailed overview of the geology and regional classification of the landscapes, including the past and present landscape transformations before looking at geomorphological characteristics of individual subregions. These include Northern Germany, the Central Uplands of Germany, the Rhine Rift Valley and South German Scarplands, the Prealpine Area, and the German Alps.
