This work was far ahead of its time: with the German-Jewish Songbook, Abraham Zwi Idelsohn created a comprehensive collection of the most popular Jewish and German songs of his time in 1912, a fundamental work for teaching in Germany and the diaspora, in which Jewish and German music faced on an equal footing. Today, 110 years later, the cultural dialogue that this songbook symbolizes is more topical than ever - reason enough for a new edition and a comprehensive rediscovery of the diverse and partly forgotten song repertoire.
