The SI version of Askeland's "The Science and Engineering of Materials" emphasizes current materials testing, materials testing procedures and selection, and makes extensive use of class-tested examples and practice problems. Procedural lists used to analyze and solve materials, and emphasis on informed decision-making methodology are also included. This fully revised text has eliminated all mention of units other than SI, with the exception of certain units which have been left in metric form deliberately because of the frequency of their use. The diagrams are relabelled, the exercises altered and graphs and tables originating from US installations have been replaced by those from the UK and Europe. Additional new topics include the Arrhenius relationship, the unary phase diagram and dual phase steels. Answers to selected end-of-chapter problems are also provided. P. Webster was responsible for the conversion of units from American standard measurement.
