Long awaited new release from the never less than extraordinary Paulo Angeli. Technically this is Paulo with his prepared and electrified Sardinian guitar with a range of pedals and processors, played in real time without loops or overdubs; experientially it's orchestral in its complexity, variety and density. The result - a wholly accessible and fully orchestrated music - speaks in the common language of melody, harmony and pulse. And, although immediately modern, its roots reach audibly back into the Sardinian past, bringing the familiar and the unfamiliar into unlikely harmony. It's an amazing, and amazingly original music that, like the Necks, can appeal across generations and musical tastes.
Born in 1970, Paulo started to play guitar when he was 9, finally evolving his highly customised version of the Sardinian prepared-guitar: an 18 string orchestra hybrid guitar, baritone, cello, drums, with various added hammers, pedals and varispeed propellers. He has a degree in Ethnomusicology and as a researcher, has published a critical volume of historical analyses of the 'Canto a Chitarra', which includes 4 CDs of recordings made between 1930 and 1967.
