Maria Amalia of Austria (22 October 1701, Vienna - 11 December 1756, Munich) was the daughter of Joseph I, Holy Roman Emperor and Wilhelmina Amalia, daughter of John Frederick, Duke of Brunswick-Lneburg. During the reign of their grandfather Leopold I, a decree was signed which gave precedence in succession to the daughters of Leopold's eldest son. However, the Pragmatic Sanction of 1713 (issued by their uncle, Leopold I's younger son) replaced Maria Amalia and her elder sister with their younger cousin Maria Theresa. She married Charles of Bavaria, who was later to become Holy Roman Emperor, on 5 October 1722. She was compelled to renounce her succession rights before marriage. They had seven children.
