Bailey, an eccentric and flamboyant high school dancer, is faced with the life or death situation of being trapped in an alternate reality by a sorceress, Ruby, who loves to play chess. To Ruby, it's a simple game with an avatar chess piece representing Bailey. To Bailey, it is a wilderness setting where she has to learn to survive in the wild, while at the same time dealing with the challenges of the game. If she fails in any of the challenges she will be trapped in the game forever. As she overcomes the challenges, she begins to learn that she can make her own choices and determine her own fate and not be victim of others' actions. She begins to learn that she doesn't have to be-nor is she-a pawn for others. She begins to change the outcome of the game, making her own way through the game to eventually confront the queen.
