The arc of the tales not only displays his path to a greater understanding of his place in the world, but also explores the nature of fairy tale as more than just stories for children but scripts for how we live our lives. Author Richard Lance Williams was inspired by Pacifica Graduate Institute classes on Folklore & Fairy Tales and Mythopoetic Expression as well as the movie The Saragasso Manuscript, a 1970's Polish ghost movie.
