The Summer Night Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic is the world's biggest annual classical open-air concert that takes place in the magical setting of the Schönbrunn Palace Baroque park in Vienna (Concert date: June 07, 2024). The focus of this year's program is on popular works from the 19th and 20th centuries that highlight Europe's rich musical heritage.
This year's concert is conducted by Andris Nelsons and features as vocal soloist the Norwegian opera singer and recitalist Lise Davidsen, who will perform one aria each from Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser and Giuseppe Verdi's La forza del destino. The bicentennial of the prominent Czech composer Bedřich Smetana will be celebrated with three compositions.
The Summer Night concert is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year (the first concert took place in 2004). Maestro Andris Nelsons conducts the concert for the 2nd time (2022) whereas soprano Lise Davidsen will have her summer night concert debuts.
The concert is broadcast on TV and radio in more than 60 countries, and thus reaches an audience of millions.
