1909. Prepared in response to the general demand for a better moral instruction in the public schools for The Character Development League. The object of the League is to devise the best means of training children of the Public Schools in the principles of morality and assisting them to the formation of right character, and for enlisting the interest and cooperation of public-spirited individuals in every locality, to have such character teaching adopted by the local Public Schools. This is a practical guide for the instruction of Traits of Character to school-age children. The Traits include: Obedience; Honesty; Truthfulness; Unselfishness; Sympathy; Consecration to Duty; Usefulness; Industry; Perseverance; Patience; Self-Respect; Purity; Self-Control; Self-Reliance; Fortitude; Courage; Heroism; Contentment; Ambition; Temperance; Courtesy; Comradeship; Amiability; Kindness to Animals; Justice; Habits; Fidelity; Determination; Imagination; Hopefulness; Patriotism; and Character.
