This volume brings together a range of articles about travel to, and within, Scandinavia in the nineteenth century. The articles cover a range of topics by intrepid travellers, to an exploration of how it was foreign interest in Iceland that helped develop the Icelanders' pride in the natural features of their own country. In addition, the articles in this volume show how travel-writing has become a genre which may be approached from a variety of theoretical angles, most obviously those of cultural and post-colonial theory, but also translation theory.
