One night when Theo is taking shelter from Luftwaffe bombing on the platform of Aldwych Underground station in London a mysterious man leaves him his hat to look after.
When he awakes Theo quickly discovers the identity of the high-ranking owner of the hat and then the race is on to find him amongst the crowds of people and items that have filled the Tube station overnight.
From livestock and museum exhibits to impromptu school classrooms, many obstacles along the platform seem to conspire against Theo fulfilling his mission.
When eventually he succeeds Theo can’t believe what he finds.
