From Humble Beginnings in the post 1918 era in Liverpool, a disabled child learns to adapt to the challenges both of the times and the expectations of the society he is living in. A harsh poverty stricken environment starts Dan on a journey, which will take him from a lowly paid job for a disabled child in the 20's and 30's, and see him capitalise on the opportunities presented to him over the decades. He ultimately rises to success both financially and personally, to achieve what could only have been dreamt of at the beginning of the novel.
