An account of three generations of Irish motherhood, which is both touching and funny. Upon the birth of her child, Walsh assumed she would become the perfect mother, but found herself frustrated with the ritual of Lego and swings. She looked to the past: her Nana, indomitable in everything, but deferring to her husband; her mother, whose glamorous career was cut short by marriage; and herself, a supposedly modern woman with plenty of choices.
