Many functions have been attributed to soil, with some even suggesting soil is important all sectors of production. In this book we build a case for the importance of soil in agricultural production. For the soil to remain as productive and important for agricultural production, it is vital that we maintain certain characteristics of soil. The maintenance of the characteristics requires a proper understanding of soil rather than a passive application of soil management practices.
