Lady Bridgit Mead is a bored woman who dislikes her mother and is apathetic about everything. So when Lord Pontefract proposes to her one drunken evening, she hastily says yes. Right afterwards, young Theo Joyselle urges her to reconsider, arguing that she will be happier with him, a younger, more vibrant man. She assents to marry him instead and goes to visit his family. At the small Joyselle homestead, she finds peace and tranquility. She thinks that she will finally be happier here.
Unfortunately for her, Lord Pontefract will not be dismissed so easily. Her anger flares and she discovers that Theo Joyselle's father is not as sweet as he seems to be. Will her past destroy the peace that she seeks? Or will she be able to reign in her anger and maneuver through the difficulties that surround her life?
