The Soviet Union - a popular state? Studies on popular opinion in the USSR.
It is a well-established fact that the population of the Soviet Union often and in many ways resisted the regime. The regime in turn resorted to terror, which sometimes became all-pervasive and unscrupulous. On the other hand, the regime obviously also enjoyed popular support. Who supported the Soviet power? In what sense it was supported? Why and when it was supported? The authors of this volume try to answer these questions relying on new materials, which include the OGPU opinion surveillance files.
