The goal set, the specificity of the references, and, above all, the probability that most of the authors under review had no first-hand experience of the area of Salmydessus, but relied on the works of their predecessors, define the character of the study and the research methods used. It is a historical work, with a strong element of Quellenforschung, and provides a comprehensive examination of the literary and epigraphic evidence relevant to the topic.
