The Dispute over MexicoMexico is living an internal war for the control of the Nation. Two poles, two sides, two armies with two different ideas of the Republic seek to control its destiny. For 40 years, the country was mounted on the rails of neoliberalism; 40 years in which poverty and inequality were accentuated, while the control of an elite over public policies, institutions, the economy, the education of the masses and even over autonomous bodies was consolidated. This elite made decisions that impacted the lives of millions of Mexicans. The elite, however, lost hegemonic power. A force emerged from the left, openly opposed to neoliberalism -but still tucked into those shoes-, took federal control in 2018. It has not fully taken over the reins of the economy, public policies or the Nation's institutions and faces strong resistance from the group that dominated the country.
