This book presents a multifaceted panorama of art and science in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It addresses art history searching for its own profile as a new academic discipline – and questions related to the canons of art history and Stendhal’s Syndrome. It also provides an introduction to the Finnish art world from 19th-century Romanticism to renowned women artists such as Helene Schjerfbeck.
