Information economy report 2011 - ICTs as an enabler for private sector development
This Report, one of the few monitoring global trends related to information and communication technologies (ICTs) from a development perspective, is a valuable reference source for policymakers in developing countries. In the 2011 edition, special attention is given to the role of ICTs in accelerating private sector development (PSD) in developing countries. Many national and donor strategies related to PSD fail to take adequate account of the ICT potential, which has greatly expanded thanks to changes in the global ICT landscape. The Report identifies four facets of the ICT-PSD interface: 1) ICT infrastructure as a factor in the investment climate; 2) ICT use by the private sector; 3) the ICT sector as a part of the private sector; and 4) ICT use in interventions aimed at facilitating PSD.
