The anthology has now been expanded to include new criticism of three of the Caribbean's most influential modern artists: Kamau Brathwaite, Pedro Mir and Rene Depestre.

Silvio Torres-Saillant is the senior editor of the Oxford Encyclopedia of Latinos and Latinas in the United States (2005). He is also the author of An Intellectual History of the Caribbean (Macmillan, 2006). He teaches at Syracuse University, and lives in New York City.
