This paper focuses on the electoral rise of far-right political parties in the EU, in the light of the results of the 2014 European Parliament election. The parties Golden Dawn (Greece) and National Front (France) within their respective socio-political contexts will be used as study-cases. Likewise, the main contents of the extreme-right propaganda -nationalism, xenophobia, etc.- will be identified and put in comparison with the scapegoat mechanism theory developed by René Girard. The said contents will be also compared to the works on violence in the name of identity carried out by Arjun Appadurai and Amin Maalouf. The purpose of this analysis is determining to what degree far-right parties take advantage of social stigmas of scapegoats in Greece and France, and which minorities are used as such in their ideology.
