High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! He was the son of Algernon Percy, 6th Duke of Northumberland and Louisa Drummond. Percy's political career began in 1868, when he was elected Member of Parliament MP for Northumberland North. He was appointed to the Privy Council in 1874, and he left the House in 1885. He inherited his father's peerages in 1899 upon the latter's death; that same year, he became a Knight of the Garter. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland from 1904 until his death in 1918. He was Lord High Steward at King George V's coronation in 1911. From 1913 he also served as the second Chancellor of the University of Durham. On December 23, 1868, he married Lady Edith Campbell (daughter of George Campbell, 8th Duke of Argyll). They had 13 children.
