A photo book about the hardcore punk´s birth and
development in Gothenburg with some detours to
other locations.
Style, ideology, music, bands, fans, travels, squattings, actions.
Hardcore punk is a small but worldwide movement
that has strongly influenced youth and musical cultures
like black metal, goth, hellectro and others.
Punk transformed during the early 1980s from the pub rock influences in the -70s to a musically brutalized so called D-beat sound via bands like Exploited and Discharge. In Sweden, Gothenburg located Anti-Cimex took a frontal position.
Youth got inspired by this new, more energic punk. It reborned as the nastiest child among teenage cultures with even more vulgar clothings, hair cuts and attitudes than earlier.
The main ingredients were, and still are, the music, the visual look and the ideology; criticism against war, violence, racism, fascism, religion and the globalized capitalism.
A clear dissociation from drugs, alcoholics and meat industry in the start, has though split up into different groups.
My pictures never were ment to be published, until I, 30 years later, discovered what this period in the 80s and early 90s really was all about: the birth of a very special youth culture - the hardcore. It´s fantastic to have experienced this. I realize now.
I hope this book is not only a historic collection but also are enjoying. Punk may look strange and threatening but that´s a false lead. The answers to your wonders are in your own understanding.
