This book is a collection of recent articles by Dr Man-Chung Tang on the design of bridges. Based on his years of experience in bridge-building, the book is divided into three parts: Ideas, Conception and Others. Part 1: Ideas, covers the architecture in bridge design — from the artistic expression to human emotion of an engineer to integrate the arts on the basis of engineering. Part 2: Conception, looks into the implementation of bridge design from the perspectives of aesthetics, safety, economy, and service life cycle. Finally, in Part 3: Others, the author presents his design thinking about bridge development in China and the rest of the world. The book explains the theories in bridge design in simple language, and is suitable for advanced undergraduates, graduate students, and practitioners specialising in bridge engineering, civil engineering and other related fields.
