The Australian Curriculum Classroom Approaches series draws together a range of contemporary approaches to curriculum design and pedagogy, consistent with the spirit and aims of the Australian Curriculum for students in years 7 to 10. Curriculum is defined as those learning experiences planned by teachers as well as the processes by which they are implemented. Each title aims to provide teachers at all stages of their careers (from pre-service to the highly experienced), with support for creating engaging teaching and learning experiences for students. Using the Understanding by Design approach the series integrates the scaffolding of literacy and numeracy, and the incorporation of communication technologies with the principles of inquiry, differentiation, authentic assessment and student-centred pedagogies. Units of work focus on performance tasks designed to maximise student engagement and promote creative and critical thinking. Each book also includes a series of 'worked example' units and support for teachers to design or tailor their own units to the needs of their students. Key Features * Consistent design and layout throughout the series. Part 1 explains the approach and outlines the theory and practice of curriculum design while Part 2 outlines the units of work explicitly linked to the Australian Curriculum for each year level. Part 3 provides do-it-yourself curriculum design solutions followed by curriculum design templates which are also available on the associated website * Uses the Understanding by Design approach with the three stages of curriculum design: identifying the desired results, determining the acceptable evidence of learning; and planning learning experiences and instruction accordingly * The units of work for each year level have been designed using the 5Es model for inquiry-based teaching: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate
