Rafael de Swarte is from London. He lived in Finland 1970-72, returned in 2012, now resident in Rauhalinna Kaarina. Age fifteen formed band, Tyres, a mixed-band, they played in England, mid to late 1960s. In 1968 historic highlights: 1. They were on the same bill as the first Led Zeppelin performance at Roundhouse Chalk Farm - where John Lee Hooker also headlined. 2. Played at Middle Earth when Tyranossaurus Rex (T Rex) performed - Bolan and Took played Deborah. It was around 1966, Rafael started writing songs for his band, they recorded a few times demos and suchlike, had a session at Abbey Road but tapes were lost. The band split in 1969 coinciding with the "end of an era". Rafael continued writing until 1978 then during a very long term marriage did not play or write for next 35 years. Discovered VR Studio through Teemu Pulkkinen (one of the new very interesting bunch of young Finnish players) in 2015. Jussi Vuola, the owner of VR Studio has tape machines. Rafael hired a Fostex tape machine from Jussi towards the end of 2015 and ran some of his old reel to reel recordings to computer (he’d managed to keep some tapes over the years though many had been lost or stolen). These half forgotten or totally forgotten songs were then written down and he also began work on new songs in 2016. Coming to Finland in 2012 revitalised the creative spirit. The session for Midnight Fool the new album was at VR Studio, Turku, April 2016. Recorded 12 songs live on analog. Songs are blues folk rock with no overdubs and very few edits. First time in a studio for more than 40 years. "I was very nervous and cannot even now believe it actually did happen!"
