The full score of Sviridov's First SymphonyVolume 23 A of the Complete Works of the great Russian composer Georgy Sviridov (1915 1998) contains the score of Symphony No. 1 (1937). The music text of the score is published based on the single surviving fair-copy manuscript, the autograph preserved in the family archive of the Sviridovs. The manuscript has come down to us in poor condition since the text was partially soaked in water. With the aid of special equipment, the blurred and partly lost text was photographed by Sergei Sirro, the head of the Department of Technological Investigations at the State Russian Museum. The restoration of the music text of the score was carried out by Pavel Lukyanchenko, the music editor of this volume. An introductory article by Alexander Belonenko, director of the Sviridov Institute, prefaces the volume, and is followed by textual and critical commentary about the music text by the musical editor of the volume Pavel Lukyanchenko with an English summary of the introductory article of A. Belonenko by the British musicologist Stuart Campbell and his abridged translation of the commentary of P. Lukyanchenko. The general editor of the volume is Ihc musicologist Alexander Belonenko.
