In middle-class suburbia, Sylvia, a mother of three and housewife to the domineering Stephen, goes about her life, trying to ignore the fact that her days revolve around a loveless marriage, restrained and distant children and the ever-present sense of duty. However well she achieves a semblance of normality, her self-imposed facade of denial is tested to its limit when she is forced to endure a depraved attack. the consequences are devastating and far-reaching for both Sylvia and her family, who are unable, or unwilling, to support her in her hour of need. As events unfold, the fragile threads of their suburban lives become unravelled and Sylvia fights to keep control over her feelings as the calamitous past events begin to engulf them all and threaten to destroy her completely.
