1992 BROADCAST RECORDING FROM ASBURY PARK, NEW JERSEY With a sound and style that blended classic 1950s rockabilly with the emerging punk scene, Stray Cats were key players in the genre s early 1980s revival. Having already developed a large following in their native New York, in 1980 the group relocated to London, where the rock n roll resurgence was at its height. They gained the attention of some big names, and members of The Who, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones made frequent appearances at their shows; in 1981 they released their eponymous debut album. The LP spawned three hit singles, Rock This Town , Runaway Boys and Stray Cat Strut , with the former reaching the Top 10 on both sides of the Atlantic and being named as one of the songs that shaped rock n roll by the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. After releasing their second album, Gonna Ball, later that same year, they caught the attention of EMI, who compiled the best tracks from their first records and reissued them as Built For Speed in 1982, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Chart, a position it held for 26 weeks. The 1980s weren t all smooth sailing for the group however, and the trio split for the first time in 1984, citing personal and musical differences. Frontman Brian Setzer would later reflect on how much of a mistake this was, saying that "it was silly to break up the Stray Cats at the peak of our success". Sure enough, they reunited in 1986 and remained a steady unit for the next eight years. This live recording is from the second era of the Stray Cats career, captured at The Boardwalk in Asbury Park, New Jersey on 23rd May 1992. Broadcast over FM radio and featuring a wide range of Stray Cats classics, alongside a selection of covers - including Stray Cat Strut , Rock This Town , I Fought The Law and Mystery Train - the group here prove that by this time they had still lost none of their power, energy and attitude, and remained as dynamic as ever they were.
