Aged just 17, Sonia Evans was discovered by Pete Waterman after she approached him outside a Liverpool radio station and insisted that he should hear her sing. Within months, her 1989 debut smash ‘You’ll Never Stop Me Loving You’ had made Sonia the youngest British female artist to top the charts since Mary Hopkin, and the following year, she became the first ever to score five Top 20 singles from one album.
Sonia quickly established an adoring audience on the three successive Hitman Roadshow tours of the UK with fellow PWL acts including Kylie, Jason, Sinitta and Hazell Dean. She also enjoyed chart success across Europe and as far afield as Australia, the U.S. and South America, where she played to huge crowds.
After leaving PWL, Sonia signed with Simon Cowell for two further albums. After extending her uninterrupted run of hit singles to culminate with the 1993 Eurovision runner-up ‘Better The Devil You Know,’ she went on to star as Sandy in the West End revival of Grease. In the years since, Sonia has never stopped performing, maintaining a busy diary of live gigs and TV appearances in addition to an impressive CV of stage work.
