This survey provides insight into many of the issues surrounding older workers including recruiting and retaining older workers, working past traditional retirement age, and dealing with possible worker shortages as boomers retire. In addition, the survey investigates unfounded beliefs about older workers and how human resource professionals feel about those myths. Analysis of the results by industry, organization size, and sector is provided. Data from this report show there are more advantages than disadvantages to hiring older workers. It also demonstrates that organizations are preparing for the possibility of a shortage of workers due to the retiring baby boom generation by increasing training and crosstraining efforts, developing succession plans and replacement charts, and allowing for flexible scheduling.
