Change and transformation in systems of public administration have come under much scrutiny. Reform and reorganization of government have become movements for its reinvention. The contents of this book reflect cases and ideas from the UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Germany and Slovenia. Administration is being transformed from professionalized and functionally organized bureaucracies into something completely different, but relatively unspecified. This has raised concern of going "beyond BPR". BPR has emerged from intellectual origins which are relatively narrow. For public administration, in particular, broader questions about context and values must be addressed. Reinvention and re-engineering in government and public administration are considerated within this broader context.
