Beginning in the late 1800's, 'Wayne' the Courthouse Bell kept the residents of Goldsboro and surrounding Wayne County, North Carolina informed whenever court was in session and anytime activities downtown required him to "sound off!" Despite a hundred years of courthouse fires, demolitions, and relocations, Wayne survived by being moved from one location to another until he was rescued, preserved, and permanently placed on display where he quietly marks time and oversees daily activities for residents and visitors to his beloved Wayne County Courthouse.
