From a traditional, stately Georgian home in California, thoughtfully built and with respect for tradition in stone, to a romantic French Country home on Long Island, to a Shelter Island Fishing Camp and a Modern Barn home in New England, the work of Eric J. Smith is at once an homage to tradition and an expression of the living beauties these traditions still offer. Over the course of a career that spans decades, Smith has garnered a reputation for sensitive design that is in sync with the homeowner and with the place where the home is built, whether it be fronting ocean, standing on a hillside near the woods, or by a lake or stream. Smith formed his practice in 1987 with offices currently located on Union Square in Manhattan. Personal referrals continue to expand and Eric s practice focuses almost exclusively on custom residential projects - whether apartments, houses, townhouses or country homes - all over the New York region; west in California and Colorado; south in Florida, South Carolina and Bermuda; in New England, Chicago, Dallas; and internationally in London, working with prestigious interior designers including Alexa Hampton, David Easton, Diana Hambleton, William Diamond and many others. He is an active member of the Institute for Classical Architecture and Art. Eric s personal values of dedication, responsibility, pride in a job well done and enthusiasm are imbued in the professional staff and are reflected in every project.
