This is the story of the White/Maklakov family that came to America to escape the Russian Revolution. They got out of Russia one step ahead of a firing squad, being relatives to Tsar Nicholas and Alexandra. One by one they came to America from France and settled in North Dakota. Gregory, the youngest son, came first. When he was processed at Ellis Island, the lady who wrote up his identification papers got his last name and political party mixed up so Gregory Maklakov became George M. White, a name as American as apple pie. George had been in America only six months when he was drafted into the US Army Air Service as a airplane pilot. He returned to France and flew with distinction with the famous 94th Pursuit Squadron. Gregory (George) and his son August (Gus) flew with distinction in both World Wars and the Korean Conflict. They are proud to call themselves citizens of the United States of America.
