Sonata No 5, op. 53, refers to 1970. Such large-scaled compositions as the Symphony No 3 and the “Ecstasy Poem” lie between them. Signifying the period of searches and strivings in Skriabin's creation of the 1900ies, the Sonata No 5 reveals its congeniality with the “Ecstasy Poem”, not to say of the time they both appeared. The common philosophical aesthetic stratum unites them. The Fifth was completed 5 days after the “Ecstasy Poem's” score. The composer indicated it as the earlier opus, than the symphonic poem.
