This book attempts, through a study of Mohammed Iqbal's poetry, to arrive at an understanding of his personality and places it in the context of his times. It provides a graphic, sympathetic yet critical picture of Iqbal's intellectual life and the contemporary political context as well as a meaningful expression of the pre-Partition ethos, including the character of the Muslim intelligentsia and its dilemas.
