French Architecture in Shanghai
This book vividly interprets the crosscurrents of influence and exchange between French architectural culture and the city of Shanghai. It is divided into three sections: the first describes the French cultural imprint in modern Shanghai, including the development of the western district of Shanghai French Concession, the characteristics of its urban area, and institutions in the fields of charity, medicine, education, science, and culture influenced by French culture. The second part introduces some iconic buildings created for the international metropolis of Shanghai by famous French architects such as Charpentier, Paul Andreu, and Frederic Rolland. The final section invites 14 Chinese architects who have participated in the project "50 (150) Chinese Architects in France" to reflect on their experiences of studying abroad.
