A selection of papers from the 14th international ice symposium, looking at the formation and behaviour of ice in surface waters. The presence of ice in surface waters also has significant implications for the development and use of cold regions and their resources, and these papers cover not only the physical processes at work, but also attendant environmental and industrial aspects of ice structures.
