SEVENTEEN, formed in 2015 under PLEDIS Entertainment, consists of 13 members. Besides being a 13-member group, SEVENTEEN also performs in units. The group consists of 3 official units: Hip-hop, Vocal, and Performance. The hip-hop team comprises members S.COUPS, WONWOO, MINGYU, and VERNON. The vocal team consists of members WOOZI, JEONGHAN, JOSHUA, DK, SEUNGKWAN. The performance team consists of members HOSHI, JUN, THE 8, DINO. The band performs as a whole, but often showcase official unit tracks in their albums and special stages during their concerts.
The band’s debut EP 17 Carat became the longest charting Kpop album of the year on the Billboard World Albums Chart, peaking at number eight. Their 2nd EP Boys Be topped the same chart a few months afterward, proving their title as “super rookies.”
Widely known as “self-producing idols,” SEVENTEEN participate heavily in their own production, with member WOOZI acting as one of the main producers.
The band held their first concert tour 1st Asia Tour : Shining Diamond in 2016, visiting venues in Korea, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, etc. Their first world tour took place in 2017 -2017 Seventeen 1st World Tour “Diamond Edge”-in which they visited 13 cities in Asia and North America. Their second world tour titled “ODE TO YOU” took place in 2019-2020, with SEVENTEEN performing 24 shows in total, including 8 cities in North America in arena sized venues before their tour was cut short due to COVID-19.
SEVENTEEN has been continuing their success, but their major accomplishment took place when they were awarded the Artist of the Year for the 3rd quarter of 2020 by selling over 700,000 physical albums within its first week. The group soon broke their own record and sold over 1,000,000 physical albums with their 7th EP, titled Heng:garae within the first week of release (only other group to reach this record was BTS at that time).
