The border-crossing research conference eBRF was launched in 2001 to encourage holistic, multidisciplinary research on the transformation at hand: the multiple effects of the recent IST development on business reality. The research submitted and accepted for presentation at the fourth eBRF conference – eBRF 2004 – fell into three broad categories labelled (i) Electronization (Development) of Business, (ii) Managing Information and Knowledge, and (iii) Strategizing in Knowledge Society. The conference proceedings, Frontiers of e-Business Research (FeBR) 2004, volumes 1-2, is a collection of 60 research papers, all aimed at increasing our understanding of business in the knowledge society.

eBRF is organized by eBRC, a joint venture between the Tampere University of Technology and the University of Tampere, and one of the six subprograms of eTampere (2001-2005), a local pilot o eEurope. eBRC serves researchers, business and research financers as a broker and matchmaker in e-business related research and development projects – in the business of turning ideas into knowledge.
