Young seminarian Albert Whelan finds himself increasingly disillusioned by changes in direction of the Roman Catholic Church away from the spiritual and towards the political. He is pursued by a Soviet agent posing as a priest who is consumed with a desire for revenge, believing Albert may be "The One" bent on destroying his eternal existence.
