Why Not You? is a fantastic read! The book takes us on a journey of a young girl who desires to be a ballet dancer.
Through the book, we can see the main character Abigail, go through the process of working through her doubts and insecurities about herself. She develops a new sense of self-confidence to try something that is out of her comfort zone, which comes with challenges. Through the support and understanding of her parents, she can achieve her dream to dance.
The purpose of this book is to motivate and inspire young children to pursue their dreams, despite the insecurities they may have. Whether the insecurities are based on social, physical, environmental or financial factors, it is important for young children to think, why not me?
Children naturally begin to develop a deeper sense of self awareness from around the age of 7 years. A child's achievements and confidence are significantly affected by how they view themselves. This has an impacted on their education, how they socialise and how they develop into adults.
The book is also put together to create a platform for conversation between the reader and their parents/guardians. Through such conversation the parent/guardian will be able to gauge a better understanding of what the child wants to achieve, and who they want to be; as well as discuss the problems they may be experiencing.
