After being for four decades described as "the Republics of the Soviet Union" which voluntarily joined thr Soviet Union in 1940, the three Baltic nations - the Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians re-emerged on the map of Europe. The Baltic nations resored their independence in a very organized and determined way. These small states are the only ones in the post-Soviet space, which have quite successfully come to terms with "Return to the Western World". This work draws the pre-history (1920-1940) and history of this return 1987-1991. Civil society approach contributes important insihgts into the times of the "Singing Revolution" in the Baltic history.
